Hendersononians can now buy recreational weed.

The Las Vegas Sun says that Henderson City Council voted tonight to greenlight recreational marijuana sales in Henderson.

When Nevadans said yes to recreational or "adult use" marijuana last November (and many of Nevada's dispensaries started selling it on July 1), Henderson (population: ~300K) decided to hold off for a while and see if Vegas went to hell in a handbasket. Well... so far, so good.

"The vote set a path for five dispensaries in Henderson as well as over a dozen combined cultivation, testing and production facilities to begin operating in the recreational market," reports the Sun's Chris Kudialis.

One of two dissenting council members, Councilman John Marz, said that Henderson is "jumping into this way too early." He was all in favor of medical back in 2015, but he said that recreational pot sales threaten Henderson's status as a "premier city." He did.

Henderson's a giant chunk of civilization on the southeast corner of the Las  Vegas Valley. According to the 2014 FBI Uniform Crime Report, Henderson is ranked as one of the Top Ten Safest Cities in the United States. This ruling will make it just a little easier for Henderson adults to buy cannabis product.
